iWAYS Project – Innovation and continuous improvement at Alufluor

Our journey toward greater sustainability is ongoing and our dedicated engineering team is focused on process optimisation. Our in-house, high-end laboratory conducts rigorous testing several times a week to monitor emissions to both air and water.

Moreover, through the international EU Horizon project (iWAYS.eu), we collaborate with universities and technical institutes across Europe to set and achieve pioneering sustainability benchmarks.  It is important for us to aim at raising industry standards throughout our valuechain.

We are, and continue to be, the most sustainable choice on the market.  Read more about our implementation of energy-saving solutions through our history and the EU-Horizon project.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement N° 958274.

First to Commission the Heat Pipe Condensing Economiser (HPCE) in the iWAYS Project

In August 2024, we took a significant step forward by becoming the first of the three companies participating in the iWAYS project to commission our Heat Pipe Condensing Economiser (HPCE). The HPCE is designed to capture and reuse resources such as heat and fluorine that would otherwise be lost during our industrial processes, significantly enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability across our operations.

iWAYS Water Treatment and Recycling

Within the scope of the iWAYS project, a significant enhancement to our water treatment facility has been developed. This improvement is anticipated to result in a substantial increase in recovery rates, potentially saving 30% of our annual freshwater consumption. The expansion of our water treatment capacity ensures efficient recycling of water through a circular closed-loop system.

The iWAYS Project – Innovative WAter recoverY Solutions

The iWAYS project is a groundbreaking initiative in Europe, dedicated to reducing emissions in the manufacturing industry while conserving water and energy. As the first of its kind, this project focuses on recovering valuable resources – such as water, heat, and materials – from industrial exhaust gasses that would otherwise go to waste.

Alufluor in Helsingborg, Sweden, was the first site to implement and test the HPCE technology as part of the iWAYS project. Currently, the project is in its evaluation phase, with the technology being tested at three industrial sites across Europe.
